About the Role

The Protection Technology Officer will support MONUSCO’s security operations through the management of protection and surveillance technologies.

The role covers security monitoring systems, counter-drone capabilities, surveillance equipment, sensor integration and command-and-control platforms. The officer will also support technical assessments, incident response, training and technology upgrades.

The position requires someone who can work independently in remote and potentially hazardous environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor protection technologies across mission facilities.
  • Maintain early warning and surveillance systems and coordinate technical maintenance.
  • Support the operation of counter-drone and radio-frequency detection systems.
  • Monitor surveillance feeds and identify potential security incidents.
  • Manage electro-optical, infrared, thermal imaging and other surveillance technologies.
  • Support integrated command-and-control and multi-sensor systems.
  • Analyse technical security incidents and prepare reports and risk assessments.
  • Develop and deliver training on mission protection technologies.
  • Prepare technical guidance, user manuals and operational procedures.
  • Assess new security technologies and support procurement and equipment evaluations.
  • Identify capability gaps and recommend technology improvements.

Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications Engineering, Military Technology, Business Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience with security technologies.
  • Experience operating, maintaining or managing surveillance, detection or mission protection systems.
  • Experience in challenging operational environments.
  • Experience in military, peacekeeping, law enforcement, border security or critical infrastructure protection.
  • Technical knowledge of surveillance systems, thermal imaging, radar, perimeter detection, counter-drone technologies, command-and-control systems or networked security infrastructure.
  • Fluent English.
  • Working knowledge of French is desirable.
  • A valid light vehicle driving licence.
