Available Position

OBO Shipment Clerk

The OBO Shipment Clerk will work under the Supervisory Administrative Assistant of the Overseas Building Operations project team. The position supports official shipments associated with the New Consulate Compound (NCC) in Lagos.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Obtain customs clearance for incoming and outgoing official shipments.
  • Support shipment activities for the New Consulate Compound.
  • Work with the Ministry of Transportation on vehicle registration.
  • Assist with vehicle inspection activities.
  • Coordinate with relevant local officials and project contacts.
  • Work with vendors and trucking companies as required.
  • Maintain appropriate shipment and administrative records.
  • Follow established customs, shipping and clerical procedures.
  • Support project follow-up and ensure assigned activities meet deadlines.

Eligibility

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of high school.
  • At least two years of experience in customs, shipping or logistics.
  • Good working knowledge of spoken and written English.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Ability to undergo a background investigation.
  • Ability to undergo a pre-employment medical examination if required.
  • Ability to begin work within approximately six weeks after receiving the required authorization and clearances.

Requirements

Candidates should have:

  • Good knowledge of U.S. Government customs and shipping procedures.
  • Familiarity with Overseas Building Operations guidelines.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Government clerical practices.
  • Understanding of Embassy vehicle safety and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of local cargo, shipping and customs procedures.
  • Knowledge of local laws governing vehicle use, registration, insurance and import/export.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Internet research skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with end users, vendors, trucking companies, local officials and other contacts.
  • Knowledge of accepted record-keeping methods.
  • Ability to develop and maintain filing systems.
  • Ability to follow up on projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
