About the Project
The Sanitation and Hygiene Fund supports access to sanitation, hygiene and menstrual health services. Its Capital M initiative focuses on strengthening the menstrual health market and improving access to finance for enterprises.
The specialist will support this work in India by identifying businesses, investors, financial institutions and strategic partners that could contribute to catalytic financing.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Identify menstrual health enterprises and potential financing partners in India.
- Assess manufacturers, distributors, retailers and e-commerce businesses.
- Review business models, market position, financial performance and fundraising needs.
- Map local financial institutions that could provide local-currency financing.
- Identify impact investors, development finance institutions and blended finance funds.
- Screen and prioritise potential pipeline opportunities.
- Assess enterprises and financing opportunities based on impact, feasibility and scalability.
- Recommend opportunities for technical assistance, financing or partnerships.
- Support the development of catalytic financing structures and partnership models.
- Build relationships with potential Capital M partners and pipeline opportunities.
- Prepare technical briefs, presentations and enterprise assessment profiles.
- Represent SHF at selected meetings and sector events.
Key Deliverables
The consultant will contribute to several major outputs, including:
- An inception report covering methodology, activities and timelines.
- A financing ecosystem map for India’s menstrual health market.
- A prioritised pipeline database and screening tool.
- Strategic recommendations for catalytic financing and market development.
Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A master’s degree or equivalent in development finance, corporate finance, economics, business administration or a related field.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline may be accepted with two additional years of relevant experience.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in impact investing, venture capital, development finance, corporate finance, private-sector fundraising or related areas in India.
- Experience in programme financing, particularly development finance or impact investing in India.
- Fluent English and Hindi.
Experience in women’s health, menstrual health, FMCG or related markets is desirable. Experience working with financial institutions, DFIs, impact investors and enterprise accelerators is also an advantage.
